NAGARPALIKA UPDATE , May - June 2005

WILL THE MISSION MAKE A DIFFERENCE ?

NAGARPALIKA UPDATE
The declared objective of the 73rd and 74th Amendments of Constitution is to make panchayats and municipalities function as "institutions of self-government". Many bold and innovative experiments have been undertaken across the country to achieve this objective of the two historical amendments of the Constitution. A medium for exchange of information and experience sharing will fasten this process of democratic decentralization. Nagarpalika Update, a bi-monthly and bilingual (English and Hindi) newsletter published by the Institute of Social Sciences, New Delhi, is a modest attempt to provide such a platform for sharing information on trends and developments in the field of urban local governance across the country.

Prof. K.C. Sivaramakrishnan is the consulting editor of Nagarpalika Update since its inception in 2003.
